Clock Tower

The 43-foot-tall clock tower is both a campus landmark and a popular gathering space for students. At the turn of the 21st century, WSSU endeavored to create a village-like community on campus by changing a main automobile thoroughfare into a pedestrian mall. The clock tower, which was dedicated in 2004, was a key part of the campus refurbishment project.

The clock tower has seating all around, a bell that tolls every hour, and features quotes from former WSSU Chancellor Harold Martin, acclaimed activist and author activist Maya Angelou, and civil-rights icon Benjamin E. Mays.
