Wilveria Bass Atkinson Science Building

The Wilveria Bass Atkinson Science Building is home to the departments of biological sciences and chemistry. The building is named in honor of Dr. Atkinson, who served as a professor at WSSU for thirty years. She founded Project Strengthen, a biomedical research program that was open to all students, regardless of GPA. Dr. Atkinson encouraged students to perform rigorous research, present their findings at national and international conferences, and submit their work for publication in scientific journals. Her spirit, energy, and high standards inspired generations of graduates who went on to become scientists, researchers, and medical professionals.
